Founded in 1932 by eight national federations, it operates as a non-profit association of over 210 national basketball federations and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the official international federation for the sport. Headquartered at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland, FIBA organizes major international competitions, including the FIBA Basketball World Cup and the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, and administers official rules, player transfer systems and world rankings.
