Bournemouth Borough Council was the local authority responsible for the administration of Bournemouth in Dorset, England. Its origins trace back to the creation of the Municipal Borough of Bournemouth by royal charter on 27 August 1890, which later became a county borough in 1900. Between 1974 and 1997 it was an administrative district under Dorset, then later regained unitary authority status, meaning it handled both district- and county-level responsibilities. On 1 April 2019 the council was abolished and its functions merged with adjacent areas to form the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, as part of governmental reorganisation. Bournemouth Borough Council was charged with local services such as planning, housing, waste collection, and local infrastructure while active, and operated from Bournemouth Town Hall. It was a public body rather than a privately owned enterprise.
