Bahlsen is a German family-owned food company founded in Hannover in 1889 by Hermann Bahlsen. It began as a biscuit manufacturer and introduced its famous Leibniz butter biscuit in 1891, named after the German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. The company has since developed a broad portfolio of biscuits, wafers, chocolate-coated snacks and other confectionery products. Bahlsen remains headquartered in Hannover and operates production facilities in Germany and Poland. Its products are distributed internationally across numerous markets, while the business continues to be managed as a family company.
