Metrolink is the light-rail and tram network serving Greater Manchester in England. It opened in 1992, becoming the first modern street-running light-rail system in the United Kingdom. The network has since expanded considerably and now connects Manchester city centre with destinations including Altrincham, Bury, Eccles, MediaCityUK, East Didsbury, Rochdale, Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester Airport and Trafford. TfGM owns the system and is responsible for its strategic management, while day-to-day operations are delivered by a contracted operator. Metrolink is now an important part of the Bee Network public transport system.
