AEG, originally Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft, was a pioneering German electrical engineering company founded in 1883 in Berlin by Emil Rathenau. Renamed AEG in 1887, it played a central role in the electrification of Germany and manufactured a diverse range of electrical products, from appliances to heavy industrial machinery. The company merged with Telefunken in 1967 and was acquired by Daimler-Benz in the 1980s. It was fully dissolved by 1996, after which the AEG brand was acquired by Electrolux, which continues to use the name under license for home appliances.
