Centrales Eléctricas de Norte de Santander S.A. E.S.P. (CENS) is a Colombian electric utility company headquartered in Cúcuta, Norte de Santander. Established on 16 October 1952, it has evolved into a major provider of electricity transmission, distribution, and commercialization for more than 350,000 customers across the department of Norte de Santander, parts of southern Cesar, and southern Bolívar. CENS operates under the framework of public utility services (Empresa de Servicios Públicos) and has a long history tied to regional electrification, beginning with early generation plants in Cúcuta. Since 2009, the company has been majority owned by Grupo EPM (Empresas Públicas de Medellín), one of Colombia’s largest public services conglomerates, which holds over 90 % of the shares and provides strategic direction and investment. CENS continues to invest in infrastructure improvements and service expansion while serving as a key energy partner in the region.
