About the brand ❤️
The New York–Penn League was a long-standing minor-league baseball circuit, operating in the northeastern United States from 1939 until 2020. Originally founded as the Pennsylvania–Ontario–New York League (PONY) in 1939, it adopted the New York–Penn name in 1957 when its geographic footprint shifted. Classified in its final years as a “Short-Season Class A” league, NYPL filled a key role in player development: each June, shortly after the amateur draft, newly signed draftees and young prospects would begin their pro careers in NYPL clubs, playing a shorter ~75-game season through early September. Over decades the league included teams from New York and Pennsylvania — and at times from neighboring states and even Canada — giving local communities access to future major-league talent. In 2020, after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the season and Major League Baseball restructured its minor-league system, the New York–Penn League was officially disbanded. Many former teams relocated to new leagues or folded, and the NYPL name was retired.
