Rodarte is an American luxury fashion brand founded in 2005 by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. It is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. The name “Rodarte” comes from the original Spanish spelling/pronunciation of the founders’ mother’s maiden name, Rodart. The brand is known for its artistic, couture-inspired creations combining delicate craftsmanship, conceptual design, and romantic yet often avant-garde aesthetics. Early collections were painstakingly crafted (one chiffon dress reportedly took over 150 hours to make), and the label has since gained critical acclaim, including awards from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), National Arts Awards, and others. Rodarte has also done limited-edition collaborations with major retailers like Target and Gap. Although it operates in the luxury segment, its output is distinct for its artful detail, theatrical runway presentations, and its presence in museum exhibitions. There’s no indication the company has ceased operations.
