The Adler Planetarium, located in Chicago, Illinois, is the first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere, opening its doors on May 12, 1930. Philanthropist Max Adler funded its creation as a “classroom under the heavens,” and it quickly became a landmark venue for science education and public astronomy. Situated on Chicago’s Museum Campus, it is governed by a Board of Trustees in partnership with the Chicago Park District.
