AJS Motorcycles is a storied British motorcycle brand with roots dating back to 1909 in Wolverhampton, when it was founded as A. J. Stevens & Co. Ltd. The brand quickly earned a reputation for engineering excellence and racing success — especially in early 20th‑century competitions like the Isle of Man TT. Despite financial troubles that led to the company's closure in 1931, the AJS name persisted under various owners (such as Matchless, Associated Motor Cycles, and Norton‑Villiers) until the late 1960s. In 1974 the marque was revived, and today AJS Motorcycles Ltd., based in Andover, Hampshire, produces lightweight scooters, mopeds, and 50–125 cc commuter bikes. Though its modern products are modest compared with its historic racing legend, AJS remains alive as a tribute to the classic British motorcycling heritage — offering affordable, easy‑to‑ride bikes that carry forward over a century of brand history.
