Alaska Railroad is a state-owned American railroad serving Alaska's Southcentral and Interior regions. Its main line connects Seward, Anchorage and Fairbanks, with branches and connections serving Whittier and other communities. The railroad provides both freight and passenger transportation, including scheduled services for residents and seasonal tourism trains serving destinations such as Denali National Park. Its history dates to the early 20th century, with the federal government completing the main railroad in 1923. In 1985, ownership was transferred to the State of Alaska, which continues to own and operate the railroad through the Alaska Railroad Corporation.
