Android Nougat is the seventh major version of the Android mobile operating system, developed and maintained by Google LLC, a U.S. technology company headquartered in Mountain View, California. It was officially released on August 22, 2016 and designated as version 7.0 (with subsequent updates up to 7.1.2). Android Nougat brought several enhancements to the platform, such as improved multi‑window support for running apps side‑by‑side, expanded notification controls with inline replies, and a more power‑efficient Doze mode to extend battery life. It also introduced support for the Vulkan graphics API and an OpenJDK‑based Java environment, improving performance and compatibility for developers. Although Nougat is no longer supported with security updates as of October 2019, it remains part of Android’s version history and was widely adopted on many devices following its release.
