Arthur is an animated educational children’s series based on the books by Marc Brown, co-produced by WGBH Boston (USA) and Canadian partners, beginning with CINAR (later Cookie Jar) and later 9 Story Media Group and Oasis Animation. It premiered on PBS on October 7, 1996, and is known for exploring everyday issues children face — family, school, friendships, diversity, health, and inclusion — through its main character Arthur Read, an eight-year-old aardvark, and his friends. The show ran for 25 seasons, with production of new episodes ending in 2022. It was acclaimed for handling serious topics gently, and remains highly regarded for its longevity and positive impact on generations of young viewers.
