The Athletics are a professional Major League Baseball franchise in the United States, established in 1901 as the Philadelphia Athletics, one of the original American League charter teams. Over more than a century, the club has relocated several times: from Philadelphia to Kansas City, then to Oakland, and most recently to West Sacramento, California as an interim base while awaiting a permanent move to Las Vegas planned for 2028. Owned by American businessman John J. Fisher, the Athletics compete in the American League West Division and have won nine World Series championships.
