About the brand ❤️
ATI Technologies Inc. was a Canadian semiconductor company founded in 1985 by K.Y. Ho, Benny Lau, Lee Ka Lau, and others, based in Markham, Ontario. It specialized in graphics processing units (GPUs), video chipsets, and multimedia hardware for PCs, laptops, consoles, and related devices. ATI went public in 1993, gaining a reputation for Radeon graphics cards among other product lines. On October 25, 2006, ATI was fully acquired by AMD in a ~$5.6 billion deal. AMD kept the ATI brand alive for its graphics and chipset products for several years, but in 2010 phased out "ATI" branding in favour of the AMD name (e.g. Radeon onwards). The technology, R&D, product lines, patents and staff of ATI were absorbed into AMD’s graphics division, and the ATI brand is now defunct though historically very influential in the evolution of PC graphics.
