The company traces its origins to Toshio Sumino’s auto-parts business founded in Osaka in 1947 and was incorporated as a joint-stock company in 1948. The first AUTOBACS store opened in 1974, pioneering Japan’s comprehensive automotive specialty retail format. Today, the AUTOBACS brand offers car parts, tires, batteries, oils, electronics, accessories, vehicle inspections, maintenance, repairs, and vehicle sales and purchasing services through directly operated and franchise stores.
