About the brand ❤️
Banca Carige (Banca Carige S.p.A., historically “Cassa di Risparmio di Genova e Imperia”) was an Italian bank rooted in Genoa, with origins dating back to 1483 when the Monte di Pietà was founded. Over centuries it evolved, and in 1991 it adopted its modern joint-stock company structure. Carige served retail, corporate, private and investment banking clients, especially concentrated in Liguria and other northern Italian regions, operating hundreds of branches. After years of financial instability, regulatory scrutiny, and capital shortfalls, the bank was acquired by BPER Banca in 2022. On 28 November 2022 it was fully merged and no longer exists as a separate legal entity. Its branch network, assets and obligations are now part of BPER, which assumed Carige’s operations and liabilities.
