About the brand ❤️
The Barcelona Dragons were a professional American football team based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, that competed in the World League of American Football (WLAF) and later in the resurrected NFL Europe league. Established in 1991 as part of the NFL’s efforts to expand the sport internationally, the Dragons played their home games at historic venues including the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys and later the Mini Estadi. Over their 12‑year history, they were one of the most recognised European American football franchises, reaching four World Bowl finals and capturing the World Bowl championship in 1997. The Dragons became well‑known for contributing to the sport’s visibility in Europe and for fielding international talent coached by Jack Bicknell. Despite competitive success, financial and attendance challenges eventually led to the franchise’s closure in 2003 when the NFL Europe league restructured and relocated teams. The Dragons remain a notable chapter in the history of American football outside the United States and are remembered for their passionate local support and pioneering role in European gridiron competition.
