Burisma Holdings was a private oil and natural gas company, registered in Cyprus but primarily operating in Ukraine. Founded in 2002 by Mykola Zlochevsky, the company expanded through the mid-2000s by acquiring or consolidating multiple gas exploration and production assets, especially in Ukraine’s main hydrocarbon basins (Dnieper-Donets, Carpathian, Azov-Kuban). Its operations included gas production, drilling, well services, and hydraulic fracturing. At its peak, Burisma was one of Ukraine’s largest private gas producers, holding dozens of licenses and generating significant domestic production. Ownership through Brociti Investments placed it under the control of Zlochevsky. The company was often involved in political controversy, in part because of its ownership and board appointments. As of 2023, Burisma Holdings Limited was dissolved as a legal entity.
