The Democratic Action Party (DAP) is a Malaysian political party formed in October 1965 and registered in March 1966. Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, DAP positions itself as a centre-left, social-democratic party committed to racial equality, social justice, secular governance and parliamentary democracy. It traces its origins to the Malaysian branch of Singapore’s former People’s Action Party. Over the decades, it has grown from a minor opposition voice into one of the most influential parties in Malaysian politics, playing a significant role in coalitions and emphasising transparency, good governance and multi-racial representation.
