Originally known as Dollar-A-Day-Rent-A-Car, it developed as a value-focused rental company serving leisure and business travelers. Dollar became part of Chrysler's Pentastar Transportation Group in 1990 and later operated under Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group. In 2012, Hertz Global Holdings acquired Dollar Thrifty, bringing Dollar into the Hertz family of brands.
