About the brand ❤️
Elder-Beerman was an American department store chain headquartered in Dayton, Ohio. Its origins date back to 1883 with the founding of the Elder & Johnston Company. Later, Arthur Beerman opened his own chain of Beerman Stores in the 1930s. In 1962, the two companies merged to form The Elder-Beerman Stores Corp., which went on to become a major regional retailer in the Midwest. Known for offering clothing, footwear, cosmetics, and home goods, the chain expanded across Ohio and neighboring states. In 2003, Elder-Beerman was acquired by The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. However, following Bon-Ton’s bankruptcy, all Elder-Beerman stores were permanently closed on August 29, 2018, marking the end of a 135-year history in American retail.
