Ferromex is Mexico's largest freight railway company and operates an extensive rail network across the country. Established in 1998 after Grupo México and Union Pacific acquired the concession for the former Ferrocarril Pacífico Norte, the company provides freight transportation for agricultural, automotive, mineral, industrial, energy, chemical, fertilizer, metals and cement industries. Its network connects major Mexican cities and industrial regions with ports on both the Pacific and Gulf coasts, as well as several border crossings with the United States. Ferromex remains a major part of Grupo México's transportation division.
