About the brand ❤️
GGP (General Growth Properties / GGP Retail LLC) is an American commercial real estate company focused on owning, managing, leasing and redeveloping retail properties across the United States. Founded in 1954 by brothers Martin, Matthew and Maurice Bucksbaum, it grew into one of the nation’s largest shopping mall operators with a portfolio of numerous high-traffic retail centers. The company, originally known as General Growth Properties, became a publicly traded REIT and was a major force in U.S. mall development for decades. After filing for bankruptcy in 2009 and reorganizing, GGP was acquired by Brookfield Property Partners in 2018 and its assets were folded into Brookfield Properties. In 2026, Brookfield reinstated the GGP brand as the identity for its U.S. retail business, preserving the legacy of the long-standing mall owner while operating under the Brookfield umbrella. Today, GGP continues to develop and manage retail destinations aimed at connecting communities and supporting brand experiences nationwide.
