It consisted of smart glasses with a small heads‑up display that projected information into the wearer’s field of view, enabling hands‑free access to notifications, navigation, and basic voice‑controlled functions. The first Explorer Edition units were shipped to developers and early adopters starting in 2013, with a broader release in 2014, but widespread consumer adoption was hindered by privacy concerns and a high price, leading Google to halt consumer sales by 2015. The product continued in limited “Enterprise Edition” form for business and industrial applications before that line was also phased out by 2023.
