Graphcore is a British semiconductor and artificial intelligence company founded in Bristol in 2016 by Nigel Toon and Simon Knowles. The company develops specialized processors and computing systems for artificial intelligence and machine learning, most notably its Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU), designed for highly parallel AI workloads. Graphcore has developed both hardware and software intended to accelerate the training and deployment of advanced machine-learning models. The company attracted major investment from technology and venture-capital firms before being acquired by SoftBank Group in July 2024. Graphcore remains headquartered in Bristol and continues operating under its own name.
