Homestar Runner is an American independent animated web series and entertainment franchise created by brothers Mike and Matt Chapman, known as The Brothers Chaps. The characters first appeared in a parody children's book in 1996, while the HomestarRunner.com website launched in 2000. The series became one of the most popular Flash-based web cartoons of the early 2000s, featuring surreal humor, video-game references and memorable characters such as Homestar Runner, Strong Bad, The Cheat and Marzipan. The franchise expanded into games, DVDs, music and merchandise. After a period of reduced activity, new content continued to appear occasionally, including through its website and YouTube channel.
