About the brand ❤️
HOOQ was a Singapore‑headquartered video‑on‑demand streaming service launched on 30 January 2015 as a joint venture backed by Singapore telecom group Singtel with Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. Its aim was to provide an Asia‑focused alternative to global players, offering Hollywood movies, TV series and local content to subscribers in markets including Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, India and Indonesia. The platform rolled out progressively across these countries between 2015 and 2016 and gained a substantial user base, at times boasting around 80 million users. Despite early growth and partnerships with local operators and platforms, the service struggled to compete financially against larger streaming rivals and rising content costs. In March 2020 HOOQ filed for liquidation, and its services were shuttered on 30 April 2020, with its assets later acquired by other companies looking to build their own streaming or OTT search services.
