It was established to provide Japanese consumers with a domestic credit card system and later expanded internationally from the 1980s onward, forming alliances with financial institutions and payment networks worldwide. JCB cards are accepted at tens of millions of merchant locations across more than 160 countries and regions, and the brand works through issuing partners in many markets. The company also operates associated services such as premium airport lounges for select cardmembers.
