About the brand ❤️
Kelly’s of Cornwall is a beloved Cornish ice cream manufacturer based in Bodmin, Cornwall, England. The brand began in the late 19th century (around 1890) in St Austell by Italian immigrant Joseph Staffieri. Over time the company expanded from horse-and-cart mobile ice cream sales to a fleet of vans and multiple parlours. Kelly’s is famous for using whole milk and Cornish clotted cream from local farms, giving its ice cream a rich, creamy texture. In 2008 R&R Ice Cream (now part of Froneri) acquired Kelly’s to help distribute it nationally; national supermarket chains began stocking its products after the merger (completed around 2010). Despite growth, Kelly’s retains strong local identity: its adverts use the Cornish language, and its parlours and vans still operate in Cornwall. Recently, the original company registered in 1980 was dissolved in 2022, but the Kelly’s ice cream brand and production continue under its parent company Froneri.
