Kratos is the main fictional character and central figure of the God of War video game franchise developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. First appearing in the 2005 game God of War for the PlayStation 2, Kratos is portrayed as a powerful Spartan warrior who becomes known as the “Ghost of Sparta.” The character is famous for his brutal combat style, use of the Blades of Chaos, and dramatic storylines based on Greek and later Norse mythology. Over time Kratos evolved from a vengeful anti-hero into a more complex character, particularly in later games such as God of War (2018 video game).
