Kreis Viersen is a rural district in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, located near the Dutch border. The present-day district was established on 1 January 1975 during a major regional administrative reform, with the city of Viersen becoming its administrative seat. Kreis Viersen comprises nine municipalities and serves around 300,000 residents. Its administration is responsible for a wide range of public services, including transport, social affairs, environmental protection, health, education and economic development. The district combines agricultural landscapes, nature reserves, historic towns and strong links to the neighbouring Netherlands.
