Lilium is a German aerospace company, founded in 2015 in Gauting near Munich by engineers Daniel Wiegand, Sebastian Born, Matthias Meiner, and Patrick Nathen from the Technical University of Munich. The company is pioneering a revolutionary electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, the Lilium Jet, designed to carry up to six people up to 300 km at speeds of ~300 km/h with zero emissions. As a highlight, the prototype first flew in May 2019, successfully transitioning from vertical to horizontal flight. Headquartered in Bavaria, Lilium aims to redefine regional air mobility with sustainable, high-speed service while navigating regulatory and financial challenges common in the capital-intensive aviation industry.
