Metric Commission Canada was a Canadian federal government agency created in 1971 to coordinate and promote the country’s conversion from imperial units to the metric system. It advised the federal government on metrication, coordinated conversion plans across more than 100 sectors of the economy, conducted research and studies, and produced educational and public information materials. The Commission worked with government departments, industries, businesses and consumer groups throughout the conversion process. After its responsibilities were substantially completed, it was dissolved on March 31, 1985, and replaced by a smaller metric office.
