About the brand ❤️
Mozilla Phoenix was the early code name for the standalone browser project spun off from the Mozilla Application Suite. It aimed to provide a leaner, faster browsing experience without bundling email, chat, or other components. The first public release, Phoenix 0.1, came out on September 23, 2002. However, the name had to be changed in April 2003 due to a trademark conflict with Phoenix Technologies, and the project was renamed to Firebird, and later to Firefox by 2004. Though “Phoenix” itself no longer exists as a brand, it played a pivotal role in Mozilla’s shift from a full suite model to a streamlined, modern web browser under the Firefox name.
