About the brand ❤️
NFL Europe was a continental European American-football league backed by the NFL, created to promote and develop American football in Europe. It began as the World League of American Football in 1991 — with teams across North America and Europe — then refocused in 1995 as a strictly European league, becoming NFL Europe (later NFL Europa). Over its lifespan it featured franchises in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom and other countries. The league served as a “developmental” circuit: many players allocated by NFL teams used it as a stepping stone to the main league. Nonetheless, despite a passionate European fan base, persistent financial losses (reportedly around US$30 million per season) and limited long-term viability led the NFL to discontinue NFL Europe in 2007. The closure marked a strategic shift: instead of running a separate European league, the NFL decided to build its international presence through global broadcasting and staging regular-season games abroad.
