Norsk Tipping is the national gambling company of Norway, founded in 1947 (with game operations often marked from 1948), headquartered in Hamar. It is wholly owned by the Norwegian State and operates under the Ministry of Culture and Equality. Norsk Tipping has a monopoly on many forms of gambling in Norway — including lotteries, sports betting, instant games, scratch cards, etc. All profits are returned to the community: contributions go to sports, culture, and other public welfare sectors. The company is legally regulated, obliged to promote responsible gambling and prevent negative social effects.
