Ontology is a public blockchain platform initially created in 2017 by Onchain, with the aim of enabling decentralized identity, data exchange, and trust infrastructure for Web3. It uses a dual-token model: ONT (governance / staking token) and ONG (for gas and transaction fees). After launching its MainNet on 30 June 2018, Ontology evolved into a broad ecosystem — offering tools like ONT ID (self-sovereign digital identity), ONTO Wallet, and distributed data services. The project, now managed under Ontology Foundation Ltd. (registered in Singapore), emphasizes privacy, interoperability and enterprise-friendly blockchain solutions.
