The Saint Joseph’s Hawks are the collective name for the intercollegiate athletic teams of Saint Joseph’s University, a private Jesuit university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Competing primarily in NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Hawks field men’s and women’s teams in sports such as basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and track & field. The “Hawks” nickname was chosen in 1929 through a student contest and has since become a central symbol of the university’s athletic identity. Saint Joseph’s basketball programs—especially the men’s team—have a rich history, including NCAA tournament appearances and notable alumni such as NBA players. Home competitions take place on campus facilities such as Hagan Arena for basketball and Smithson Field for baseball.
