The Swedish Hockey League (SHL) is Sweden’s highest-level professional men’s ice hockey league. It was established in 1975 as Elitserien, initially featuring ten teams, and was renamed SHL in 2013 to create a stronger international brand. The league currently consists of 14 teams, with the champion awarded the Le Mat Trophy as Swedish national champion. Svenska Hockeyligan AB manages the league’s commercial and sporting interests on behalf of its member clubs, including media rights and joint sponsorships.
