The organisation was originally founded in 1874 as the South Melbourne Football Club, competing in early Victorian competitions before joining the newly formed Victorian Football League (VFL) in 1897. In 1982, the club made history as the first Australian football team to permanently relocate interstate, moving from Melbourne to Sydney and later adopting the name “Sydney Swans.” The Swans are a key member of the Australian Football League (AFL), fielding both men’s and women’s teams and playing home games at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.
