Team GB is the unified Olympic-team brand for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and other territories under the BOA’s jurisdiction. Launched in 1999, it was created after disappointing results at the 1996 Olympics — the intention was to build a stronger, more recognizable identity for British athletes across all sports, regardless of discipline. The brand is used for all Olympic participation as well as related merchandising and marketing, giving a single “team” identity rather than separating by sport. Through this common banner, Team GB aims to unite athletes and supporters under shared colours and values and to strengthen public recognition, sponsorship, and commercial support for British Olympic sport.
