About the brand ❤️
Transnet Freight Rail is South Africa's state-owned freight railway business and a division of Transnet SOC Ltd. It transports bulk and general freight, including coal, iron ore, manganese, agricultural products, minerals, automotive goods, containers and petroleum-related commodities. The business operates one of Africa's largest railway networks, covering approximately 22,000 route kilometres and connecting mines, industrial centres, terminals and ports. Its heavy-haul coal and iron-ore corridors are particularly important to South Africa's export economy. In 2025, the freight-rail business was separated from the infrastructure function as part of Transnet's vertical-separation programme.
