The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the world governing body for the sport of cycling, responsible for regulating and developing competitive cycling disciplines worldwide. Founded on 14 April 1900 in Paris by the national cycling associations of Belgium, France, Italy, Switzerland and the United States, it now represents more than 200 national federations across five continents. Headquartered at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland, the federation oversees disciplines including road, track, mountain bike, BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, cyclo‑cross, trials, and indoor cycling, many of which are featured in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The UCI issues licenses, establishes technical and sporting regulations, coordinates international competitions such as World Championships and World Tours, and works with organisations like the International Olympic Committee to promote ethical sport, anti‑doping measures and global cycling participation. Through its governance and events calendar, the UCI shapes the competitive landscape of cycling and supports the sport’s growth at elite and grassroots levels around the world.
