Ural is a Russian manufacturer of heavy-duty and all-terrain trucks, based in Miass in the Chelyabinsk region. Founded in 1941 during World War II via the evacuation of the Moscow ZIS plant, Ural (originally UralAZ) became renowned for producing robust off-road and military-capable trucks able to operate in extreme environments — from frozen Siberian winters to rugged terrain. Over decades, the company built a reputation for durability and simplicity, supplying vehicles for civil industries (oil, gas, logging, construction) and for military and government use. Today Ural continues production of a wide range of trucks (4×4, 6×6, 8×8), with capabilities suited to heavy loads and harsh conditions. Recent investments include a new assembly building opened in 2025, aimed at modernizing production and increasing capacity — demonstrating that Ural remains a major industrial manufacturer in Russia.
