About the brand ❤️
UTV Software Communications was a major Indian media and entertainment conglomerate founded on 22 June 1990 by Ronnie and Zarina Screwvala in Mumbai. Initially focused on television content production, advertising and post‑production, it grew into a diversified media entity spanning film production and distribution, television programming, animation, games and interactive content. The company also operated UTV Motion Pictures and held stakes in broadcasting ventures, helping pioneer locally produced content for both Indian and international audiences. In the 2000s, The Walt Disney Company acquired increasing stakes in UTV, culminating in full ownership and integration into Disney’s Indian operations. In 2020 UTV Software Communications as an independent brand ceased to exist when it was formally merged into Star India/Disney India, making it part of Disney’s wider media portfolio. Throughout its history it played a key role in shaping Indian entertainment, contributing to Bollywood cinema and television production before its absorption into a global media giant.
