About the brand ❤️
Viceland in Canada was a specialty pay television channel serving the Canadian market and based in Toronto. It began on 7 September 2001 as The Biography Channel Canada, a joint venture initially involving Rogers Media, Shaw Communications and A&E Networks, later becoming wholly owned by Rogers before its rebranding. In 2016 the channel relaunched as Viceland through a partnership with Vice Media to target a young adult audience with lifestyle‑oriented documentary and reality series reflecting Vice’s editorial style. Programming included international and Canadian‑produced originals, blending provocative cultural, music, travel and documentary content aimed at millennials. Despite the creative vision and collaboration with Vice, the channel struggled with low viewership and profitability, leading Rogers and Vice to terminate the partnership. Viceland shut down on 31 March 2018 and its broadcast licence was surrendered, ending nearly 17 years of service on Canadian cable and satellite platforms.
