Winston is an American cigarette brand introduced in 1954 by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and named after Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where the company was founded. It became the first nationally popular filtered cigarette and reached the position of the best-selling cigarette brand in the United States in 1966, remaining there for ten years. In 1999, Japan Tobacco acquired the global Winston brand. Following the 2015 U.S. divestiture, ITG Brands became its U.S. owner, while Japan Tobacco continues to own it internationally.
