Xubuntu is a community-developed, Ubuntu-based Linux operating system designed to provide a lightweight and efficient desktop experience. Its first official release, Xubuntu 6.06, was launched in June 2006. The distribution uses the Xfce desktop environment, known for being fast, stable and highly configurable, making Xubuntu suitable for both modern and older computers. It is developed by a community of contributors with infrastructure and sponsorship provided by Canonical. Xubuntu is free and open-source software and remains one of the recognized official Ubuntu flavors, offering users an alternative to the standard Ubuntu desktop environment.
