About the brand ❤️
Yandex Smartpass was a technology developed by the Russian internet company Yandex to streamline cinema entry by letting people use electronic tickets without queues at the ticket office. Announced and trialled in 2014, it worked by scanning a QR-code from an online ticket at a cinema entrance so viewers could go directly into the auditorium, with scanning software running on devices like tablets supplied to cinemas. The idea was to reduce the need for paper tickets and long waits by integrating with ticket-selling systems and verifying the code on-site. The system was experimented with in various Russian cinema chains and was part of Yandex’s broader push into online ticketing and services tied to its platform offerings. Smartpass is not a separate operating company, and after initial trials it didn’t evolve into a major standalone product; instead, Yandex’s general ticketing services and other technologies continued independently.
